You treat people like fools

You write love letters to yourself

How sad

Fighting for attention against the odds

Willing to eat worm and sod

For a better life than this

Willing to even drink the piss

Without a thought or care or woe

Of where you make others go

Because to you life is different shades of gold

You think you can make something new of old

And you don’t think about the soul you’ll lose

Or the people you make swim the blues

You just care about your pocket

Even if you have to stick your finger into an electric socket

You don’t care of the pain you cause

So long as there is bling on your paws

And you can win your awards

You don’t care about the discord

Because you are draped in gold and jewels

You don’t care about stupid rules

Because you treat people like fools

And you know you can get away with this

Even if the wine tastes like piss

And you can sit and smile in glee

For what things you have stolen from me

Misread the rules

I just realised that I had misread the rules for the short story competition at The Writing Magazine.  There is no fee for subscribers, that was for the poetry competition instead.  I think I will write all six of the ideas for the competition, or at least try!
